Just when you’d recovered from National Badger Weekend, another celebration begins. This time, it’s a bit more up our street – it’s National Spa Week, which starts tomorrow (19th September). And what better way to celebrate it than with another instalment of Product Placement’s series of spa reviews, Preferential Treatments.
Thanks to Wahanda, the spa and wellness website, I was lucky enough to test a fabulous treatment courtesy of their spa vouchers. Through their site you can book a gorgeous spa day or spa break – and they’ve also got some cracking offers on the go to celebrate spa week, so it’s a good time to have a nose. And in the meantime, have a read of my review, and try and appreciate what a tough job it is that I do.
What? Turkish Detox Glow.
Where? PURE Spa, Ocean Terminal, Edinburgh.
How much? £60 for 60 minutes.
What for? Officially, ‘to thoroughly detox and make you tingle all over!’. Realistically, to (temporarily) remove all traces of Pinot Grigio from my system.
What happens? The treatment starts with a ‘foot ritual’, which is basically a soak, scrub and massage while you chat to the (lovely, in my case) therapist. Then it’s paper knickers time. (It’s amazing what you don’t care about after you’ve given birth.) Once you’re lying down, a salt scrub is applied all over your body, ‘to provide a deep and stimulating exfoliation’, followed by an all-over soap lather to cleanse and purify the skin. The clever table you’re lying on drains the water away so it’s all very un-messy/splashy. Next, you shower off any remaining salt, and have a fabulous leg massage with gorgeous-smelling Elemis oil.
Nice or nasty? Very nice. Relaxing and refreshing all in a oner.
Did it work? Well, I’m not able to test my toxin levels but my skin felt lovely and smooth and I was relaxed (i.e. knackered) for the rest of the day.
Did it last? The therapist advised me not to shower that day so that the oils had a chance to do their work on my skin. It’s only day two (and I have now showered) but my skin is still feeling incredibly soft.
Cringe factor? The paper knickers aren’t a great look. But the therapist was so discrete and professional that any potential embarrassments were minimised.
Recommend it? Yes. An excellent way to spend an hour.

I think beauty vouchers are a marvellous idea, is there anything better than being given the gift of relaxation?!
