People expect me to know a LOT about make-up and skincare products. Which is surprising when I often look as though I’ve lost a fight with some Ready Brek, have hair like a homeless poodle and laughter lines that really aren’t that funny. Oh well. Just to live up to your expectations, I’ve done some research into mineral make-up, because, well, I actually find things like this interesting. And it also leads quite nicely into this week’s special featured item. Seamless.

Mineral make-up was first created in the 70s – it’s just taken quite a while for the technology to filter through into the mainstream. Made of completely natural, finely-ground minerals from the earth, the formulas (usually foundations but also blushers and eye colours) come without any of the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional make-up. And not only do they have an ‘inbuilt’ SPF, they look very natural, can’t be sweated off, and even have therapeutic properties (particularly for symptoms of adult acne and rosacea). Which probably makes you wonder why the hell you aren’t using them already. That’s what I thought, anyway, so was interested to try this:

Clinique New Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 (£27)

When I say interested, I mean slightly sceptical, because I thought that a powder foundation would feel dry on my skin or look slightly chalky/ cakey/ not very good. I was wrong. It’s very easy to apply with the little stubby (and antibacterial) brush, and once on feels really comfortable. It also lived up to its 8-hour claim and I didn’t have my usual ‘5pm sheen’ either. And what I really liked about it is that you can apply as much or as little as you need, and touch up when necessary, without feeling like you’re piling it on. Lovely stuff.
